Sorry everyone, you have to type in the "www" to get the right website: http://www.prettylittlething.org. Still trying to fix this.
The weather outside is frightful. End of sentence. It's cold and it's raining - hard. And of course, my orientation is today. So much for taking the bus! Yes, I am that much of a stick in the mud; if it means that my walk to the bus stop will be slightly uncomfortable, then I am taking a cab. Well, I'm definitely taking one home since the transport system in this city is hopeless after 6pm, but now I guess despite what I hoped, I will have to take one there.
I love holidays. This Monday is a holiday, although I'm not sure why. I needed the "extra Sunday" though; yesterday we didn't do what we usually do every seventh day - clean. So today I'm going to obsess over my kitchen (something I haven't been able to do while away for a week) and then if there's time, tidy up elsewhere. The kitchen is my number 1 priority when it comes to cleaning. Maybe because it's the only place in the house that's truly mine...
Do professional athletes make too much money, or do they deserve every penny? Why?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think that anyone, save the players and their immediate families, actually believe they deserve every penny that they make. However, I do know that player salaries are not merely a reward for physical talent. If players had to "deserve" their salary, let's face it - the whole world would throw a few coins at them and say something along the lines of, "playing the game should be it's own reward", etc. What we need to realize is that these pro athletes, apart from making millions of dollars every year, help other companies make billions of dollars every month. A local game at a local stadium is a guaranteed cash cow for everybody in the local area. Forget the players - what about the employees of the stadium itself? The food stands? The surrounding hotels/motels, restaurants, etc.? Let's think a bit bigger - how about advertising? How many people go to a local game? How many people go to a national game? If a company invests a good chunk of cash on one of those huge ass billboards that line the front row seats, you can bet that they're going to get that cash back a million-fold. Don't even get me started on merchandising or sponsorships.
These players are not being rewarded for their talent. In fact, the people who write the checks couldn't care less about whether or not the players even have natural talent, how they feel about the game, or how they feel about anything. Like it or not, these players are among the world's best entertainers. The money they earn is small change compared to the money they are allowing all the other people out there - from the large, multi-million dollar companies to the humble man who owns a hot dog stand - to make.
Yes, professional athletes make too much money. That is why the United States pretty much boycotted hockey after they went on strike asking for more. But that's not what matters. I truly believe that these players are not being rewarded for their talent. They're being paid to shut up and win some games so that everybody else can make some extra cash.
I am so sick of wordpress. Is it just me, or does everybody else get spammed to the point of explosion? Comments, trackbacks and all sorts of moderated comments that have yet to be approved talking penises, junk, or weird wisdom with links to furniture/boobs/kitchen appliances. One after another, after another- all campaigning under a wordpress email account. I personally find it very hard to believe that the wordpress staff feels like giving me strange, vague advice, and then directing me to a place where I can get wholesale chairs. It's pretty bad.
And since the new layout I'm working on is not quite finished (I actually hit a design block, and am currently getting my metaphorical self out of a metaphorical ditch), hellodolly will be powered by vox! Yay. Easy peasy.
SO... Exams are coming up pretty quick. Of course, as the world works, my worst subject (not grade-wise, but interest-wise) is first. Look, it's not that I don't care about stars, planets or the solar system. It's just that as far as I'm concerned, you could shove it. However, I must admit, my Astronomy class has helped me in understanding the humour behind Terry Pratchett's work. He uses words like "zenith". He speaks like an Astrophysics professor (sometimes!). And I can understand him! So while I hold my breath and force myself (when I get to that part, I'll let you know) to study, I will close my eyes and think of Mr. Pratchett and the Discworld, and how this class (and the next level class next semester *shudder*) are imperative to my exploration of the Discworld.
FYI: Current Discworld novel is Hogfather, perfect for the holiday season. Also starring my favorite character (apart from Rincewind), Death.
Good news however: I get two weeks of Christmas holidays! That's awesome for working in the service industry, and only having requested two days off! Well, they're not two weeks in a row; granted, I have exams and two days of work interlaced between them, but I'm off from the 13th to the 20th (three exams in between), then from the 22nd to the 27th!
Only catch is that I'll be working through New Years. So what. I don't party anymore anyway, so I'm not missing anything. Besides, I'm sure we close early.
I also finally figured out what I'm going to get my fiance' for Christmas :) Also, you should take a look at my new Bettie Page hair - it's in the profile :P
What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
The last wedding I went to was for a member in the "Filipino community" back in my hometown. It was very special because -
* I was a bridesmaid (first time!)
* I sang at the wedding
* And I caught the bouquet!
It was quite fun.
Next wedding I plan to go to, is my own, within the year!
What magazines do you subscribe to, and why?
I don't subscribe to any magazines, but I buy the following regularly:
Bust because I'm a hardcore third-wave, crafty feminist :P (only during school since I can only find it on campus)
InStyle because I love to know what's... in style? Yeah. It's all the best fashion magazines in the world in one
I used to buy every single fitness magazine every month back when I was a gym bunny. So, unless they start coming out with "Ballet Weekly" or "The Dancer's Digest", it'll just be InStyle for me.
Yes, my cam will now be updated regularly! Yay! http://hellodolly.org/photos ---> new photos!

So, we decided we're going to stick to Plan #1 and elope! We're going to the Caribbean. The Bahamas, more specifically. That's the plan anyway. We're unsure yet as of the date, but so far we have it out to July 22-ish 2007, although it's very likely we'll pull it back yet. That's all the updates I have so far. I'll let you all know what the final arrangements are of course!
